5th Annual AMTSociety Maintenance Skills Competition
March 7-9, 2012 - Las Vegas Convention Center
The AMTSociety's 5th Annual Maintenance Skills Competition was held March 7 -9, 2012 during the Cygnus Aviation Expo in Las Vegas, NV. Following the previous 4 years of competition the 2012 MSC again grew in size both in the number of events to be competed in and the number of teams that competed. There were 27 teams with international teams returning for the third consecutive year. There were 135 competitors that fielded the 5 separate categories: Commercial Aviation, General Aviation, Schools, MRO/OEM and Military.
Each team comprised of 5 AMT/AMEs competed in 16 total events that ranged from safety wiring to avionic troubleshooting to composite and engine tasks. This year saw the addition of not one but two new events that were created by AMTs that had competed in the 2011 MSC. This year also saw the addition of a new award called the "Professional AMT Award". This special award was presented to one AMT, AME or Student that was felt to have presented themselves in the most professional manner in both appearance and behavior as well as being knowledgeable and team player. This individual was chosen by the judges for the 16 events. Congratulations to USAF Senior Airman Kevin Meredith from Charleston AFB Team 1!
The continued growth of the Maintenance Skills Competition is testimony of the importance the industry has for promoting the skilled professionals who maintain aircraft worldwide. The MSC would not be possible if not for the continued sponsorship of events that are competed in as well as the entry of teams from around the world. The companies that provide tools for awards are leading tool manufacturers and their sponsorship is very much appreciated by the AMTSociety and the many competitiors that compete. The tools and prizes that were presented by the companies that provided events is also appreciated and a great indication of the spirit of professionalism and pride that the AMTSociety's MSC is being known for industry wide.
